Packing for a boating trip can get complicated. There are so many things to remember to bring, and you don’t want to be forced to cut your trip short just because you forgot something important. That’s why the experts at Clews & Strawbridge have created this guide to packing your boat.

1. Dry Bag

There are several items that you might want to keep dry while on your boating trip, such as extra clothing, electronics, and anything made from paper. While a zippered plastic bag can usually do the trick, many boaters choose to purchase a dry bag. These bags provide more durable waterproof storage than plastic bags, and some of them are even designed to float for easier retrieval!

2. A Well-Stocked Cooler

A cooler provides an easy, cheap way to store food and drinks while keeping them cold. You can pack your cooler with whatever you want to bring, as long as you remember to put in enough ice.

3. Sunscreen

The sun’s rays are strongest between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M., which is a problem since most people go boating in the morning and afternoon. It’s important that you pack plenty of sunscreen to keep yourself protected from the sun’s rays. We recommend a waterproof sunscreen with an appropriate SPF level. Make sure that vulnerable areas like your ears and the back of your neck are well-protected.

4. Extra Clothing

There’s nothing more uncomfortable than sitting around in wet clothes. That’s why we recommend that everyone in your party keep a dry set of extra clothing around. This is especially important if you are boating during the winter, as changing out of wet clothing is crucial for helping prevent hypothermia if someone falls in.

5. Towels

Not only can towels help you and your passengers dry themselves off more quickly, but they can also help protect your seats. Make sure that you have enough towels for everyone who will be coming along, even if they don’t plan on getting in the water.

6. Entertainment

It may be useful to have a few entertainment items around, especially when dealing with younger passengers. While anything from books to movies to music will do the trick, finding something waterproof is usually your best bet.
